Georgian "Bee Hive" Seal FobA Georgian era seal fob dating from the early decades of the 19th century, circa 1820. The body is ornately formed with floral and foliate motifs, while the base is set with an intaglio carved carnelian panel depicting a beehive complete with bees buzzing above. While the obvious meaning is related with hard work and industriousness, I do wonder whether there was a more comical double meaning beehive = behave? The art of letter writing was arguably at
the coloured sections - the face and hands - are rendered in egg tempera*
