Clarte Haut BrionThe 2016 Clart Haut Brion Blanc has an open knit bouquet of orange blossom, lemon curd and light nutty aromas, hints of candle wax emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a lightly spiced opening. Theres plenty of grilled walnut and smoke here, and something almost white Rioja like toward the finish and I mean that as a complement. This has just gained a little complexity in recent months. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Concentrated

plum and cassis notes that really stick with you

The 2010 Gloria has a very attractive and quite intense bouquet with a surfeit of blackberry and wild strawberry scents

There are also understated marmalade notes with a suggestion of crème brûlée furnishing the weighty finish that goes on and on

this offers good potential for drinking over the next decade – but no further

I should note that Vietti plans to release a 2006 Barolo Riserva Villero

a vineyard with a more southerly exposure
