Description
SOLD……A double ended gavel form emery cushion. c 1850A novelty emery filled cushion (for sharpening the needle) made of carved bone in the shape of a gavel. The nap on the red velvet cushion has worn away leaving just pink cloth but there is no damage. The head of the gavel is carved and pierced and the handle lathe turned. In good condition. 5 x 3. 5cm Stock no. LA04
There's also a pearl key hole plate
no numbers and the court card being one sided
Tops and bases are 3 cm in diameter
* Although they were intended for a packet of needles this one has 'Pens' handwritten in ink on the base
Lace making was a cottage industry using domestic animal bone and local soft woods

It is in good condition with no damage but the colour is stronger towards the head of the bobbin and more worn towards the tail presumably through handling
