which seems likely given the signature style of 'PHILS
The scene was repeated by Storck on several occasions
An attribution to Beale has been suggested independently by Allen
the Hemiksem brickyard was one of the oldest in the Netherlands
In 1640 he became a member of the painters' guild in The Hague
where he enjoyed a successful career as a portrait painter
Aelbert Cuyp
Two other versions are known (sold Van Marle and Bignell
the goats were taken from drawings made by Cuyp's father for a set of engravings published by Nicolaes Visscher in 1641 under the title 'Diversa Animalia Quadrupedia'
An early work painted in the style of J
but such possible traces as have since been discovered (lower left) do not seem convincing
