Description
A Tunbridge Ware thread winder. c1850-1860A Tunbridge ware thread winder from a mid 19th century sewing box c1850. It is made up of various native woods set in a geometric pattern. The shape lends itself to winding silk sewing thread. 4. 5 cm in diameter 3mm thick In excellent condition. Stock no. LE33c
5cm square space and its height is 2mm under 4cm
It has a carved knob which screws onto the wooden central spindle holding it in place
The boxes are made of rosewood with inlaid Tunbridge roundels set into the lids which just pull off
The detailing on both pieces is very fine

There's also a piece of cloth for the loose needles which is both glued and tied in
A pair of silver knitting needle point protectors in the shape of stockinged lady's legs
A thread waxer from a fitted sewing box which would have had matching reels
