Fluorite

FluoriteThis piece hosts one of the largest individual crystals of Fluorite that I have seen from the Sunnyside Mine! Typically, the Fluorites from this locality show either octahedral, dodecahedral or even tetrahexahedral habits, but large cubes are not terribly common. This piece has a great mix of pastel lilac and charming emerald green hues in the translucent, sharp, well formed crystals. The display side is in amazingly good condition, and as you can see

blue-green color “butterfly”-twinned crystals with tan Siderite and dark reddish-brown Sphalerite

the piece has a dual texture effect where some of the globules are perfectly smooth

I showed the piece to Robert Stoufer and he identified the locality for me

The Brookites are undamaged and superb quality for the species

gemminess and sharp form which are sitting amongst fibrous off-white color Chrysotile on matrix

greenish brown modified rhombic/hexagonal crystals of Siderite which are sitting atop crystals of lustrous

which is not often found in well-crystallized display specimens

presumably where the crystals grew against the pocket wall

semi-lustrous DOUBLY TERMINATED twin which is only seen in a very small percentage of pieces from Tasna

This piece was collected by my father in July of 1970

AND the fact that the crystals are on matrix
