SOLD…….Two Georgian silver thimbles with steel caps. c 1800These two silver thimbles were made for a mother and daughter at the start of the 19th century. The thimbles are tall and elegant with simple line engraving and steel caps. In excellent condition no holes or repairs and in the round. The adult thimble measures 2. 5 cm in height The child's 2 cm Stock no. W28

It has a clip fastening engraved with the original owner's initials MR and has the Dutch silver dagger mark at the base

The hinged one has a piece of sprung glass in the lid which is the stopper whilst the screw lid has a piece of cork and this section was for smelling salts

This date may be the presentation date as this style of work is earlier- circa 1830

The mechanism is worked from one side only -you open the top of the case and then turn the numbered flower head which pushes the needle packet holders up into position

A gilt metal lorgnette with decorative handle and blue oval lenses

It does have its original spangle with square cut beads

The interior is also decorated with strips of straw and the base covered by blue paper

The piece is decorated with a central spray of flowers surrounded by arabesques of stylised leaves with all the silver surfaces being worked in some way
