Ferdinando Principiano, Barolo BoscaretoThe 2006 Barolo Boscareto is marked by fierce tannins that arent likely to ever integrate. I imagine this powerful, unyielding Barolo spent too much time in oak. It is hard to see the 2006 ever being in balance. Anticipated maturity, 2012 2016.

there is simply another dimension here and while I don’t think this will be one of the longest-lived vintages of this much storied wine

The 2018 Ultreia Petra comes from the Ponferrada zone

This too is potentially excellent but it would be absolutely pointless to buy it without an express intent to cellar it

A much more elegant nose displays cool and ultra-fresh aromas of both red and dark pinot fruit that is trimmed in much more subtle oak nuances

The tannins are more completely integrated and while there is a trace of dryness

black raspberry liqueur and equally potent earth and game nuances

lavender and an interesting hint of sandalwood

This is sufficiently reduced that the nose is tough to properly assess

spice and stone scents
