Italian Cornicello Pendant

Italian Cornicello PendantItalian vintage cornicello pendant by Uno A Erre, circa 1980. Cornicelli are prominent throughout Italy; twisted horn shaped amulets that are used to promote fertility, virility, and strength and protect it's wearer from the evil eye. They are often made from gold and this one, crafted in 9ct, features a gorgeous matte textured finish. It's also reminiscent of a chilli pepper. Uno A Erre was the first gold manufacturing company established in Arezzo,

but it's generally accepted that they were destroyed in the fire-bombing of Königsberg by the RAF

It's beautifully dramatic and a wonderful example of Victorian eclecticism

during the latter half of the 19th century
