'Who Was Christ'-an inscribed mutton bone lace bobbin. 19thcAn unusual inscribed bone lace bobbin posing the question 'Who was Christ' which is inscribed horizontally. It has the original glass beads on the spangle including square cuts. Mid 19th century. There is a fine, dirt filled hairline running along the bobbin as seen in the photographs but this is closed and quite stable. 12. 5cm long. NB. It is stamped on the back 'Baggallay

They are oblong with rounded corners and have a slot in each to catch the end of the thread

It is star shaped and is engraved and pierced

The material has the black flecking seen in articles made of domestic animal bone and not ivory

On one side there's what looks like a painted pansy and on the other a spray of forget-me-nots and the whole is varnished

It has six lobes and is engraved with flowers and a scene from oriental life in a central roundel
