A Tunbridge Ware pot containing a glass bottle-an inkwell / sander. c 1840An unusual turned wooden pot with a Tunbridge inlaid lid. Inside it is fitted with a corked glass bottle possibly for use as a sander as it came in a box fitted with an inkwell. The wood is very dark possibly ebony or an ebonized native wood. The top is inlaid in a geometric pattern. Just under 4. 5cm high Base diameter 3cm. In excellent condition no damage or repair and with the original varnished finish. NB. The lid screw on lid is very stiff to

a rope twist border and pierced through

In 1782 the ship sank whilst being refitted taking 600 people with her including women and children

The silver marks are just the two assay marks-the silver lion and the monarch's head

Sadly they are damaged as one handle has a break half way down the arm

There's no damage but the cork had lost its leading edge so has been patched using a new piece

The lid is fitted with a pin cushion and the side has a print showing Brighton's sea front and Brighton Chain Pier (so titled)

The glass is facet cut and shaped so that it is wider in the middle
