Bernard Morey, Puligny Montrachet Truffiere(1994 was the first vintage for this wine and it comes from a mix of 20 and 50 year old vines). Difficult as it was to believe, the 2001 Truffires is finer and purer still with simply exquisite white fruit and citrus aromas that lead to flavors that are equally suffused with an intense mineral stoniness. Initially, there is a touch of oak char but this quickly dissipates and the overall effect is mildly akin to rolling rocks around in your mouth yet

The wine feels like it could be ready to drink now

sub-regional introduction to the range is consistently and strikingly savoury

I'm not wild for the oak treatment here

even opulent middle weight flavors that possess excellent mid-palate density thanks to the abundant dry extract while the balance is maintained by a firm core of ripe acidity on the slightly saline finish that is drier than the mid-palate would suggest

This bottle was way better than the one I tasted as part of a vertical tasting of this wine in 2016
