Description
A small wooden tape measure. c1900A little wooden tape measure in the shape of a fishing reel. It has a printed red cloth tape in inches and just lacks the end stop. 2. 5cm in diameter. In excellent condition. Stock no. LN41
The method of production was to create a sandwich of brass and shell and then to use a fretsaw to cut both pieces together so when separated they fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle
It was for a left handed person
The silver is hall marked-partially rubbed but readable
16cm high in total

The material has the black flecking seen in articles made of domestic animal bone and not ivory
In excellent condition bar a small chip on the end of the spindle where it screws into the base (see last photo)
Hall marked JC &S (Joseph Cook & Son) Birmingham 1933
It is hall marked for Birmingham by Levi & Salaman but the date letter is unreadable
The case measures 13 x 8
a fixed box containing a pin cushion which is topped by an acorn shaped cover- it may have contained a tall wooden thimble originally but is now empty
