Danish bone chess set, circa 1790An elegant Danish bone chess set, circa 1790 one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings of slender form with double galleries and domed finials, queens similar but with one gallery, bishops with gadrooned caps and reeded cone finials, knights as raised horses heads, rooks as reeded turrets with slender finials, pawns with baluster columns over stepped circular bases, the king 9. 2cm high, the pawn 4. 6cm high, with an inlaid and lidded
with gilt tooling and decorative gilt borders
the interior for backgammon or tric-trac inlaid with ebony and satin-birch points and burrwood inlay
the other side in boxwood
